Marketing interview questions
· 7 min read
A marketing interview blends creativity, results focus and market knowledge. Depending on the role (acquisition, content, product, brand…), the emphasis shifts, but one constant remains: they look for candidates who connect ideas to business results.
The classic trap: talking about “successful” campaigns without proof. What convinces are quantified examples and a clear understanding of “why it worked”.
Common themes
- Strategy: positioning, target, value proposition.
- Acquisition and channels: SEO, paid search, social media, email.
- Measurement: metrics, ROI, conversion funnel, A/B testing.
- Content and brand: editorial line, storytelling, consistency.
- Knowledge of the company and its market.
Questions to prepare
- “Tell me about a campaign you are proud of and its results.”
- “How would you measure the success of this initiative?”
- “How would you launch this product on a tight budget?”
- “A campaign that failed: what did you learn?”
Show you know their brand
A marketing candidate who has not looked at the company’s campaigns, positioning and competitors disqualifies themselves. Come with an observation, even an idea: “I noticed that… here is what I would try.” It is a powerful differentiator.
Case scenarios
Expect practical cases (“launch this offer”, “improve this funnel”). They assess your method: target, message, channels, measurement. Structure it out loud rather than giving a canned answer.
