Why you are not getting interview invitations
· 7 min read
You apply, again and again, and silence falls. It is discouraging — but rarely a matter of value. Usually, a few concrete causes block your applications before a recruiter even really reads them.
Identifying which one affects you is already half the way to turning things around.
Cause 1: an untargeted resume
A generic resume sent en masse gets few replies. Companies (and their ATS) look for a precise match with the posting. Tailoring your resume to each role, even slightly, clearly raises your odds.
Cause 2: ATS filters eliminate you
If your resume is not readable by sorting software or lacks the posting’s keywords, it can be discarded without a human seeing it. A simple format and the right terms change everything.
Cause 3: you are aiming off-target
- Jobs too far from your real profile (too senior, a different field).
- A saturated market where you bring no clear difference.
- Too few applications, or a high volume with no targeting.
Cause 4: an inconsistent online presence
A hesitating recruiter will check your LinkedIn. An empty, outdated profile, or one that contradicts your resume, can be enough to cool their interest. Align your resume and your online presence.
Cause 5: you never follow up
A polite follow-up a few days after applying, or a message to someone on the team, can lift you out of the pile. Many candidates do not dare — a missed opportunity.
